MJ & Me

The result of a simple, fun idea I’ve had rolling around in the back of my mind for a long time. Having toured with Michael Jackson for nearly three decades, I thought, “What’s the best way to share that with folks?” Then it hit me: take a handful of the King of Pop’s songs into the studio with my friends—some of the finest musicians anywhere—and see what we create. We dug through MJ and Jackson 5 songs and tried to stay away from the expected. The challenge was to make them different enough so I’m not doing a goofy sound-alike, while still holding on to the classic vibes of this beautiful music. We wanted them to sound both new and vintage. There’s also the matter of my original songs. They’ve been floating around in the atmosphere these last few years like orphans. So we put together this new show: MJ and Me. We’ll play my Michael Jackson re-arrangements and some of my own compositions. I was thinking we might get together on November 1 at the Miracle Theatre in Inglewood. Doors at 6. Bring somebody—we’ll make it a night you won’t soon forget.
