Southern California "Inspirational" Comedy Competition

The Southern California "Inspirational" Comedy Competition will feature the hottest up and coming comedians mentored and presented by the industry's most hilarious comedy veterans. With $5,000 in prize money on the line, “Inspirational” comedian Lester Barrie will host the show. Lester Barrie himself a competition comedian, began his career competing on Ed Mc Mahan’s Star Search where Lester won his first round over fellow comedian Dave Chappelle. Lester would go all the way to the semifinal round where he lost to the eventual grand prize winner Don McMillan. In his career Lester Barrie would go on to be honored as a Def Comedy Jam All Star, an Apollo Legend and host of a full season of Comic View on B.E.T. In 2023 the Dry Bar Comedy platform will release Lester Barrie’s new comedy special.In a season of extreme sensitivity and hostility toward comedians, this competition will seek to bring back what is “magical” about comedy. On this night comedians will perform with no profanity, and without vulgar or sexual content including innuendo. Competitors can only compete if mentored by veteran comedians as seen on B.E.T.'s Comic View, HBO's Def Comedy Jam, and STARZ's First Amendment Stand Up. A panel of 12 Judges will be from the industry’s top talent agencies, casting directors, as well as coordinators from Southern California’s top comedy clubs. In pursuit of a grand prize winner the show will also, honor the life and legacy of the comedian Sinbad. In November 2020, Sinbad’s family announced to the press that he was recovering from a recent stroke.Following an "Oscar Night" theme, the greatest veteran comedians in urban and hip hop comedy will present the contestants that they have mentored.
