South Side Sessions puts LA's most talented emerging musicians on a professional stage in downtown Inglewood, one night a month, in the intimate speakeasy setting of the MBar.
Every session is curated by South Side Symphony and presented by The Miracle Theater Foundation with the Office of Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell. Artists are paid. Audiences sit close enough to see the fingering. Nobody leaves as a stranger.
The series has run since October 2024. Keeping it running takes money.
Why It Matters
Working musicians in Los Angeles rarely get paid, professionally produced stages at this scale.
Inglewood residents get world-class live music in their own downtown, not 20 miles away.
Emerging artists build the credits, footage, and audience needed to book bigger rooms.
Every session is produced in a historic theater restored and reopened by people who live and work in the community.

Curated by Dr. Marcus Norris
South Side Sessions is curated by composer and orchestra leader Dr. Marcus Norris, who founded South Side Symphony in 2020.
His work reaches far beyond Inglewood. He scored the feature film “Honk for Jesus. Save Your Soul.,” which premiered at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival. He orchestrated several songs for Beyoncé and a 50-piece orchestra for her 2023 return to live performance in Dubai. Tina Knowles-Lawson named him Music Director of the 2022 Wearable Art Gala, where South Side Symphony backed Chloe x Halle and Andra Day.
He composed the score for Apple TV’s “Lady in the Lake,” winning a BMI Film & TV Award, and Netflix’s “BANDI,” which became the top-watched non-English show globally. He made his Walt Disney Concert Hall debut in 2022 through the LA Phil’s National Composers Intensive, and earned a Cota-Robles fellowship for his PhD in Music Composition at UCLA.
He brings that ear to the MBar, one artist at a time.
